Ba Duan Jin – Eight Silken Movement Qigong

Qigong is a health cultivating practice originated from ancient China. Qi is a Chinese character word that refers to the vital energy circulating inside the body. Gong in Chinese refers to “skill” that comes from disciplined practice. So, Qigong is simply the skill of generating and regulating Qi in the body. The purposes of practising Qigong are to maintain good health and prevent diseases. It integrates physical movements, body postures, breathing techniques and focused intention.

Ba Duan Jin Qigong is a form of medical Qigong developed in the 12th century and refined over hundreds of years. It is one of the most popular forms of Qigong, commonly practised in China and other Eastern Countries.

Ba Duan Jin literally means “eight pieces of silk”, which represents the smooth and comfortable yet strong nature of this Qigong style. Ba Duan Jin Qigong helps to increase energy, enhance physical flexibility, improve inner strength and calm the mind.

It consists of eight individual movements. Each movement focuses on a specific physical body area, organ function and Qi meridian. The movements can be practised individually or in sequence as a set.
